Mary Walrafen

       Mary Irene Walrafen, 90, Meriden, died Nov. 5, 2008, at the LinnWood Plus Care home in Valley Falls.
    She was born Oct. 12, 1918, at Peabody, the daughter of Howard Alden and Hazel Edith Runyon Ray. She had lived in Meriden since 1989, moving from Emporia.
She was a 1936 graduate of Peabody High School and attended Emporia Teacher’s College. She was a homemaker.
    She was a member of the Meriden United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Order of Eastern Star Meriden Chapter No. 399, the Beaucrant Assembly of Topeka No. 24, and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Trinity Shrine No. 7, Topeka.
    She married Norman Orlo Walrafen Oct. 28, 1939, in Nebraska. He preceded her in death Oct. 6, 2004. She is survived by one son, Verne Walrafen, Ozawkie; one daughter, Juanita Kay Shipley, Blaine, Wash.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Loper.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Meriden United Methodist Church where visitation will be from 10  a.m. until service time. Order of Eastern Star Services conducted by O.E.S. Chapter No. 399 will follow at the church.
    Burial will be at the Meriden Cemetery.
    Memorials can be made to the Meriden United Methodist Church and sent in care of the Barnett-Chapel Oaks Meriden Chapel, P.O. Box 331, Meriden, 66512.


Nadine Logsdon
    Nadine L. Logsdon, 39, Valley Falls, died Nov. 11, 2008, at her home, following a two-year struggle with cancer.
    She was born May 15, 1969, at San Bernardino, Calif., the daughter of Clair and Barbara Logan Duby.
    She worked for Jefferson County 911 Communications at Oskaloosa and was also an emergency medical technician for District 11 EMS at Valley Falls.
    She was a member of the Bible Holiness Church at Winchester.
    She married Jerry G. Logsdon March 26, 2004, at Oskaloosa. He survives of the home.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Clair Duby.
    Other survivors include a son, Doran Hobbs, Valley Falls; two daughters, Heather Hobbs and Sarah Hobbs, both of Valley Falls; her mother, Barbara Duby, Diamond, Mo.; two sisters, Mari Cummings, Valley Falls, and Marie Russo, De Soto, Texas; and a granddaughter, Sieanna Ferguson.
    Cremation is planned. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
