Harold Foley
Harold D. Foley, 74, Valley Falls, died Sat., Nov. 1, 2008, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born Feb. 27, 1934, at St. Joseph, MO, the son of Paul C. and Mary Alice Owens Foley. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. Harold was a regional manager for Western Electric and later AT&T, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Coal Creek United Methodist Church. He was president of Brown-Atchison Rural Electric Cooperative and a director of District 7 of the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation.
He was a 50-Year member of Masonic Lodge No. 236 A.F. & A.M. at Meriden, the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies and also the Arab Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. in Topeka. He was honored as 2004 Arab Noble of the Year and was also the 2008 Arab Shriner of the Year.
He married June E. Reichart on Sept. 12, 1959, at Valley Falls. She died on Sept. 26, 1995. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul E. Foley.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly D. (Roger) Elsbury, Topeka, and Karen D. (Mark) Yokley, West Hills, CA; companion, Lanie Byrd, Topeka; a brother, Charles A. Foley, Valley Falls; a sister, Ida Taliaferro, Effingham; and two grandchildren, Curt (Katie) Elsbury, and Daniel Elsbury, both of Lawrence.
The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Coal Creek Cemetery with a Masonic Service and also military honors conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation was from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arab Shrine Children’s Travel Fund and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.

Floyd McCain
Floyd George McCain, 88, Perry, died Oct. 28, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mr. McCain was born Nov. 30, 1919, at Michigan Valley, the son of George Albert and Elsie Maria Jensen McCain.
He had lived in Perry since 1984, moving from Lawrence where he had lived for many years after moving from Meriden.
He was a farmer in the Meriden area for 22 years until Perry Lake was built. He moved to Lawrence and served as a manager for Paul Smart Hog Farms for 19 years. He moved to Perry in 1984 and worked for Hupe Farms for six years. He also worked at McGrew Realty Co. in Lawrence.
He was a 1938 graduate of Michigan Valley High School and had formerly played semi-pro baseball for two years.
He was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Meriden United Methodist Church where he served on the church board and as a Sunday school teacher. He also served on the Meriden School District Board and was past president of the Meriden Co-op elevator.
He served as president of Farm Management Area No. 9 and was a member of the Shawnee County Farm and Home Loan Association, both in Topeka.
Mr. McCain was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M. No. 236 in Meriden, member of Perry Lodge No. 415, and Lawrence Lodge No. 9., where he served as district deputy. He held membership in the Abdallah Shrine in Kansas City, the York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies of Kansas and the White Shrine. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapters No. 399 of Meriden and Oskaloosa Chapter No. 62. He was a member and past noble grand of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 4 in Lawrence. He was a member and past president of the Knife and Fork Club of Douglas County.
He married Dorothy Lea Engle June 24, 1944, at Topeka. She survives at the home in Perry.
Other survivors include one son, Lee McCain, Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Blodgett, in 1995 and a sister, Laura Lois Dowell. Funeral services were Oct. 31 at Perry United Methodist Church. Graveside services were at the Valley Brook Cemetery, south of Overbrook.

Harold Hough
Harold Dean Hough, 88, Topeka, died Oct. 29, 2008, at Plaza West.
He was born April 27, 1920, in Jennings County, Ind., the son of Floyd and Lorena Anderson Hough. He graduated from San Jacinto High School in Jennings County.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from May 1942 to December 1945, being discharged as a sergeant. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Hough was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM; Oskaloosa Chapter No. 62, Order of Easter Star; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion; and NALC.
He married Jean Bailey Sept. 10, 1944. She preceded him in death in June 1977. He married Emily M. Stoddard Tucker March 1, 1982. She survives.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Dickey, in July, 1990; a stepson, Lyle Tucker, in June 1990; and a sister, Ladema Downs, in October 2006.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sharon Killam, Overland Park, and Susan Bowman, Topeka; five stepchildren, Leonard Tucker. Gove, Maxine Keaton, Meriden, Scott Tucker, Dighton, Sue Lazarus, Joplin, Mo., and Dewey Tucker, Taylor, Neb.; two sisters, Roberta Kinnear, Seymour, Ind., and Erma Huffman-Rees, Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 20 stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Nov. 3 at Grace United Methodist Church. A Fort Riley U.S. Army detail conducted military honors at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.

Brandon Jenkins
Brandon L. Jenkins, 22, Holton, died Oct. 30, 2008, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He was born on April 16, 1986, in Holton. He was the son of Gerald Jenkins Jr. and Tina Parrish. He attended Holton Middle School and Northern Heights High School.
He worked for BNSF Railroad and was a member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Local No. 2404.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kandice Mae Jenkins, May 29, 2007.
He is survived by his fiance, Jena L. Malbrough, of the home and their expected son due in December; his father, Gerald Jenkins Jr., Holton; his mother, Tina Lawrence, Hiawatha; half-sister, Beverly Bledsoe, Valley Falls; a stepsister, Theresa Bechtel, Emporia; a stepbrother, James Bechtel, Topeka; grandparents, Gerald and Sharon Jenkins, Holton, and Gordon and Eileen Bledsoe, Valley Falls.
Funeral services were Nov. 3 at Mercer Funeral Home, Holton. Burial was in the Holton Cemetery.

Eldora Flowers
Eldora “Dody” Marion Flowers, 80, died at home Oct. 30, 2008.
She was born July 9, 1928, in Topeka, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Hazel Eldora Franklin Reece. She attended Topeka public schools.
She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Post 2709 Veterans of Foreign Wars. She worked as a certified nurses’ and medication aide since 1964 until she retired in 1992.
She married Ronald “Ted” Flowers in Topeka Dec. 24, 1946. He died Dec. 14, 1987.
She was also preceded in death by a sister and one grandchild.
Surviors include a son, Ronald F. Flowers, Colona, Ill.; three daughters, Doris Mohler, Topeka, Teddy Ann Flowers, Scranton, and Nettie Haney, Mount Pleasant, Texas; two sisters, Darlene Quinney, Nashua, N.H., and Marylou Bess, Topeka; two brothers, Donald Reece, Meriden, and G.C. “Butch” Reece, Topeka; eight grand- children; and 10 great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no memorial service. She chose to donate her body to The University of Kansas medical center for research purposes.

Loren A. Carroll
Loren A. Carroll, 83, of Ozawkie, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, at Veterans Hospital in Topeka, KS.
He was born November 5, 1924 in San Fernando, California,the youngest son of Clarence and Effie (Brown) Carroll.
He joined the Navy in 1942 and served the duration of the war as a pharmacist mate on board submarines in multiple locations around the world. He met Lurline Davis of Naples,TX while in the service and they married in Denver, Co August 26, 1947. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1982. He remarried on Feb 24, 1989 to Mary Crow of Leavenworth. Mary resides in their home in Ozawkie.
After retiring from the Navy in 1962 with 20 years service, Loren went to work as a physician’s assistant at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary and then later at the Kansas Correctional Facility. He enjoyed gardening and gun collecting and was a life long member of the Masons.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Susan) Carroll of Plano, TX and Janet (Samuel) Fye of New Braunfels,TX; his grandchildren Erica and Erin Fye and surviving siblings Emilie Havens and Lauretta Williams both of California and one Aunt Rosalie Hamilton
In addition to his wife, Loren was preceded in death by his brother Dr. Eugene Carroll of Payette, Idaho.
Visitation was from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov.4, 2008 at Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. A graveside service was held at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. where he was buried with military honors. 10-20-1tc
Dorothy Brading
Dorothy Mae Brading, 75, Topeka, died Nov. 3, 2008.
She was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Horton, the daughter of Virgil and Florence Russell Carson.
She was a graduate of Atchison High School. She was an active member of the Women of The Moose Lodge in North Topeka.
Survivors include her children, John Brading, Sun City, Ariz., Mike Brading, Skip Brading, Terry Brading, Rick Brading, Sam Brading, and Bill Brading, all of Topeka, Sue Hosler and Cathy Brading, Valley Falls, and Dot Reichart, Basehor; her father, Virgil Carson, Atchison; her brothers, Butch Carson, Tracy, Calif., and Bob Carson, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Lofton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka.
Ms. Brading will lie in state after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Cummings Cemetery.
