Charlotte Carlson

    Charlotte Eva “Eve” Carlson, 101, Prairie Village, KS, formerly of Valley Falls, KS, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Brighton Gardens care facility in Prairie Village.
    She was born on May 24, 1907, at Junction City, the daughter of William and Rose Oswald Murray. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1925.
    Eve worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, and later for a certified public accountant in Moline, IL.  She moved back to Wichita in 1966 to care for her daughter, Carolyne, and her family. She moved to Valley Falls in 1972 to live with her sister, Arlene.  In 2006, they moved to Overland Park.
    She was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Wichita and later attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Valley Falls.
    She married Arthur J. Carlson at Junction City. He died on Oct. 31, 1962. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyne Rose Langholz; two brothers, John Murray and Bill Murray, and two sisters, Arlene Nescher and Gertrude Cross.
    Survivors include her son, Arthur J. Carlson Jr., and his wife Pat; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.  Eve was blessed with a century of life full of family, love and friendship.
    The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct.10, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Valley Falls. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery at Manhattan. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.

Florence McGee
    Florence Ruth McGee, 96, Crestwood, KY, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at a nursing facility in Louisville, KY.
    She was born on Sept. 16, 1912, at Wood River, NE, the daughter of Orin Alva and Anna Reichart Hefty Lewton.  She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1930, and from Stormont School of Nursing in 1933. She completed postgraduate work at Chicago Lying-In at Chicago, Il.
    Florence was a registered nurse, working in both hospitals and private care.  She retired in 1992 after 32 years of service at the US Postal Service Headquarters Health Unit in Washington, D.C.  She received a certificate of appreciation from the US Postal Service Blood Donor Program in 1990. and Meritorious Service Honor Awards from the US Postal Service in 1979 and 1992.  She had been involved in political action community groups . She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., serving many years in the church nursery. In recent years she had lived at Crestwood, KY, and Louisville, KY.
    She married Lawrence A. McGee on Dec. 7, 1935, at Covington, KY.  He died on Oct. 31, 1944.  She was also preceded in death by her son, William McGee, on Sept. 2, 1990; three brothers, Ralph Lewton, Lloyd Lewton and Peter Lewton, and a sister in infancy, Alice Lewton.
    Survivors include a brother, Carl Lewton, and his wife, Lois, Carthage, MO; three grandsons, Shawn McGee, Albuquerque, NM, Michael McGee, and his wife, Eva, Crestwood, KY, and Mark McGee, Valley Falls; five great-grandchildren, Ashley McGee, Jessica McGee and Tanner McGee, all of Valley Falls, and Jacob McGee and Audrey McGee, both of Crestwood, KY; daughter-in-law Katherine McGee, Valley Falls; five nieces and two nephews.
    The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.  Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

William LaDuke
    William L. “Willie” LaDuke, 47, rural Oskaloosa, died Oct. 4, 2008, at his home after a long battle with cancer.   
    He was born Aug. 25, 1961, at Lawrence, the son of Lloyd “Cap” and Donna C. Beery LaDuke. He was a lifelong resident of the Buck Creek community of rural Oskaloosa where he farmed all his working life.
    He married Eugenia “Geni” Lynn Summerville Oct. 22, 1982, at Lawrence. She survives at the home.
    Other survivors include a son, John “Duke” LaDuke, Oskaloosa; a daughter, Jamie LeAnne Clagett, Oskaloosa; and two sisters, Anna Kopp, Perry, and Sarah Peters, Lawrence.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ree Summerville and Donna Ann Blevins.
    Funeral services were Oct. 8 at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial was at the Underwood Cemetery, Williamstown.
