Dixie M. Wark

Dixie M. Wark, 50, Whiting, died Aug. 25, 2008, at her brother’s home after an illness.

She was born Feb. 24, 1958, in Winchester, the daughter of Harold Jr. and June McMullen Lux She graduated from Valley Falls High School. She was a label operator at Oldhams in Holton for 10 years.

She married Jim Wark July 16, 1990, in Topeka. He preceded her in death Sept. 20, 2004. She was also preceded by her first husband, Milton Wilson. She is survived by daughters, Montie Hardenberger, Wetmore, and Jamie Wilson, Whiting; a sister, Cindy Simpson, Hoyt; brothers, Tom Lux, Denison, and Jim Lux, Nortonville; stepchildren, Mike Wark, Marty Wark, J.D. Wark, and Bridget Krug; three grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren.

Memorial services were Aug. 29 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials can be given to the American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society and sent in care of the funeral home, Box 270, Holton, 66436.

Gladys Shaw

Mrs. Gladys Evelyn Shaw, 89, Topeka, died Aug. 30, 2008, at Aldersgate Village.

She was born June 5, 1919, at Rogersville, Mo., the daughter of Bert and Theresa Givens Hacker. She was baptized in the Springhill Baptist Church in Rogersville.

She married Nova Vane Shaw Nov. 2, 1936, at Springfield, Mo. He preceded her in death July 5, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Theodore Hacker and Michael Shaw; a daughter, Cora Gutchenritter; four grandchildren, Deborah Sue Senne, Laura Ann Shaw, Shannan Shaw, and David Shaw; four brothers; and three sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Campbell, Topeka; five sons, Bud Shaw, Ozawkie, Donnie Shaw, Tecumseh, and Jerry Shaw, Larry Shaw, and David Shaw, Topeka; a brother, Red Hacker, Rogersville; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newman. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Heart of America Chapter, 515 S. Kansas Ave., No. B-2, Topeka, 66603 or American Diabetes Association, 837 South Hillside, Wichita, 67211. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Wilting

Mary Lee Wilting, 93, formerly of Winchester, died Aug. 27, 2008, at the Brookside Manor Nursing Home in Overbrook.

Mrs. Wilting was born Feb. 21, 1915, at Winchester, Ky., the daughter of Philander L. and Nancy King Lamberson. She moved with her family to Iowa in 1918. She was a graduate of Iowa Falls High School and the Open Bible College of Des Moines.

She was a member of the Open Bible Church. As a young adult, she worked as the Dessie Scott Children’s Home in Little, Ky.

She married Elmer L. Wilting Nov. 11, 1943, at Little, Ky. He survives at the manor in Overbrook. The couple worked for many years as missionaries in rural Arkansas before moving to Winchester in 1959.

Mrs. Wilting worked in the office of F.W. Huston, MD, in Winchester. She also conducted a Bible club for young people in her home. In 1995, Mrs. Wilting authored a book of devotional writings titled, “Parables For Today,” excerpts of which were published in a regular column in the Kansas Christian newspaper for several years.

Other survivors include a daughter, Nancy Gordon, Carbondale; a son, William Wilting, DeSoto; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were Sept. 1 at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Memorials can be made to the DeSoto Youth Ministry, 33180 W. 83rd St. DeSoto, 66018.
