Elaine Esther Ott, 79, Topeka, died April 15, 2008, at her home. She was born May 8, 1928, at Huscher in Cloud County, the daughter of Lucus H. and Emma Luginsland Buss. She graduated from Holton High School and K.C. Business College. She worked for the state of Kansas and federal government before operating a day care in her home for 28 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Topeka, Crusaders Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and Knife and Fork Club. She married Calvin D. Ott March 6, 1949, at Holton. Mr. Ott, a native of the Coal Creek Community and graduate of Valley Falls High School, survives of the home. Also surviving is a daughter, Nancy J. Ott, Topeka. Funeral services were April 19 at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery. Trinidad Chavez Trinidad "Trini" Chavez, 77, Perry, formerly of Kansas City, died April 19, 2008, at the Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa after a long illness. She was born July 17, 1930, at Huaniqueo, Michoacan, Mexico, the daughter of Gonzalo and Maura Tapia Rodriguez. She had lived in Perry five years, moving from Kansas City. She worked in the Kansas City area for the A&P, Milgrams, and IGA grocery stores for a combined 47 years. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Olga Yolanda Chavez, and a brother, Seferino Rodriguez. She is survived by two daughters, Yolanda Gonzalez, Perry, and Martha Brumell, New Haven, Conn.; one son, Jose Chavez, Meriden; three brothers, Manuel Rodriguez, Aristeo "Artie" Rodriguez, and Luis Tapia, all of Kansas City; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was April 23 at St. Theresa's Church. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Perry. Ruby Edmonds Ruby Marie Edmonds, San Diego, Calif., died at her home Jan. 29, 2008. Services will be held at the McLouth Cemetery at 1 p.m. April 26. She was born Aug. 18, 1913, in Oak Creek, Colo., the daughter of Nona Davis and Walter Crosby. After the death of her father and brother, she and her mother returned to Winchester, where they lived with her grandparents. After graduating from Winchester High School in 1930, she worked at the post office in Winchester until her marriage to Gensler Edmonds in 1934. They owned and operated a trucking business in McLouth where she kept books for the business. She was on the school board in McLouth when the hot lunch program and rural busing was started. She coached girls basketball at McLouth in the early 1950s. After the death of her husband in 1972 she moved to California with her daughter and her family. She volunteered at the local hospital for 25 years and the senior citizens' center. She is survived by her daughter, Donis Bailey, San Diego; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gensler E. Edmonds, a son, Crosby K. Edmonds in January 2004, and a brother, Kent Crosby. Memorials can be made to the McLouth United Methodist Church. Loreen Thomas Loreen A. Thomas, 92, Belvue, died April 17, 2008, at Winchester. She was born Nov. 6, 1915 in Onaga, to Philip and Leah Rossier Cosandier. She graduated from the public school in Onaga and the University of Kansas, where she received a bachelor's in business administration. While at KU she was a member of Phi Chi Theta professional business sorority and was awarded the Phi Chi Theta scholarship key presented each year to the outstanding woman in the School of Business. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Wamego United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Omega Chapter No. 71, Order of the Eastern Star of Wamego, a longtime member of the Wamego Study Club, Vermillion TCE, and a life member of the KU Alumni Association. She married Lloyd O. "Tommy" Thomas Aug. 5, 1939, in Onaga. They farmed near Belvue for 52 years. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2002. Survivors include a son, Paul L. Thomas, San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Lou Ann Thomas, Oskaloosa; a sister, Lucile M. Berges, Great Bend; one grandson; and two great-grandsons. Funeral services were April 21 at the Stewart Funeral Home at Wamego. Burial was in the Wamego City Cemetery. Anderson, 48, Oskaloosa died April 18, 2008, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1960, the son of Ralph Eugene and Theresa Mary Pappan Anderson. He was a graduate of the Oskaloosa High School. He operated Anderson Trenching and Anderson Body Shop and also worked for the Jefferson County Water District No.7. He married Cynthia "Cindy" Doubrava Gerken, April 14, 2001. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother of Oskaloosa; a stepdaughter, Amanda Radcliffe, Oskaloosa; a stepson, Scott Vandiver, Amarillo, Texas; and one sister, Brenda Anderson, Omaha, Neb. He was preceded in death by his Father in November of 1993. Funeral services were April 21 at the Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Norma Jurgensmeier Norma Jurgensmeier, 77, rural Fairview, died April 19, 2008, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha where she had been a resident a short time. She was born at Sabetha, Sept. 16, 1930, one of six children of Oliver and Lula Jacobia Gilbert. She graduated from Sabetha High School with the class of 1950. Mrs. Jurgensmeier was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in the Fidelity Community near Sabetha, and an honorary member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary to the Fairview American Legion; and the auxiliary to VFW in Sabetha. She married Raymond B. Jurgensmeier, Oct. 30, 1950, at St. Augustine Church. They farmed and raised livestock north of Fairview. He survives. Also surviving are four sons, Bernard Jurgensmeier, Marion, Ill., Gregory Jurgensmeier and Randal Jurgensmeier, Fairview, and Kevin Jurgensmeier, Sabetha; three daughters, Pamela Koch and Patricia Bailey, both of Sabetha, and Diane Low, Nortonville; three sisters, Lillian Young, Seneca, Grace Houchens, Topeka, and Alice Woodson, Eaton Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Gilbert, and a sister, Lola Porter. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church at Fidelity April 23. Annie DePriest Annie M. DePriest, 69, McLouth, died April 21, 2008, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City. She was born Dec. 8, 1938, at Eaton, Ind., the daughter of Warren and Wilford Shady Wright. She had lived in McLouth area since 1975. Mrs. DePriest was a baker, working at the University of Kansas dorms in Lawrence for 14 years and at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Winchester. She married William Bryan "Hoot" DePriest Dec. 21, 1955, at Kansas City. He preceded her in death June 3, 2005. Survivors include three sons, James M. "Jamie" DePriest and Dwayne DePriest, both of McLouth, and "Bryan" William B. DePriest Jr., Leavenworth; one daughter, DeAnna DePriest-Gill, McLouth; two brothers, Pat Wright, Noblesville, Ind., and George Wright, Fontana; a sister, Dora Gray, McLouth; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dean Wright, Jack Wright, and Bill Wright, and three sisters, Jessie Wright, Carlean Wright, and Jewell Wright. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. April 24 at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will follow at the McLouth Cemetery. Visitation was from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care House and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066. Beulah Arnold Beulah M. Arnold, 92, died April 18, 2008, at Hester Care Center at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson. She was born April 21, 1915, in Pueblo, Colo., the daughter of Arthur David and Matilda Ann Wade Woodcock. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1933 and Kansas State University in 1938. She had been a resident of Hutchinson since 2001, moving here from Topeka. She was a retired state of Kansas social worker, having worked in Jefferson and Brown counties. She was a 4-H leader and member of the Manhattan High School and KSU Alumni Associations. She married Ralph W. Arnold in Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 1, 1938. He died March 30, 2000. Survivors include sons, Rolland Arnold, Tucson, Ariz., and Roger Arnold, New Orleans; daughters, Donna Bodine, DeSoto, Dianne Coons, Hutchinson, and Dee Sellner, Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Moshier. Funeral services were April 21 at Wesley Towers. A graveside service followed in Penwell Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka. Memorials can be sent to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter or the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
