Mary Belle Hedgepath

Mary Belle Hedgepath, 91, McLouth, died Feb. 19, 2009, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City.

She was born Nov. 6, 1917, at Perry, the daughter of Andrew Calvin and Ruth Belle Blevins Patterson. She had lived in McLouth many years.

Mary worked as a nurse’s aide for over 30 years at the Fairview Nursing Home and at Cherokee Lodge, both in Oskaloosa.

She married Delmer Lee Hedgepath Aug. 31, 1935, at Ottawa. He preceded her in death May 1, 1996.

She is survived by a son, Albert “Sonny” Hedgepath, and two daughters, Thelma Lee Durkes and Shirley Faye Kingsolver, all of McLouth; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Potter, one granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, three sisters, and eight brothers.

Graveside services were Feb. 24 at Fowler Cemetery, northeast of McLouth.

Memorials can be made to the Mary Hedgepath Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.

Madeline Gibson

Madeline P. Trower Gibson, 88, Manchester, Mo., formerly of McLouth and Winchester, died Feb. 22, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Florissant, Mo.

She was born Sept. 16, 1920, at McLouth, the daughter of Harry LeRoy and Lucinda Ann Moore Trower.

Mrs. Gibson was a homemaker and mother. She was a 1938 graduate of Winchester High School.

She was a member of the Mc-Knight Road Church of Christ in St. Louis and a member of the “Faculty Dames,” a teachers’ wives organization.

She married Dale Edsel Gibson July 17, 1938, at Topeka. He preceded her in death Oct. 25, 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Julia Shrimplin, Deerfield, Mary York, Florissant, and Nina Dougherty, Gladstone, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Stevan Gill and Faith Gill.

Funeral services were Feb. 25 at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial was at Winchester-Wise Cemetery in Winchester.

David B. Crain Jr.

David B. Crain Jr., 73, Perry, died Feb. 22, 2009.

He was born in Webster, S.D., June 7, 1935, the son of David B. Sr. and Lila Olson Crain.

He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Tony St. Clair.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice K. Schneider Crain, and a sister, Donna Wagner.

He joined the Army right after high school. He later worked for Coca- Cola before retiring from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Oct. 1, 1996, after 37 years.

He was a member of the Perry American Legion Post No. 142 and Perry Lodge No. 415, AF&AM.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline M. Hodson Crain, Perry; three sons, David A. Crain, Topeka, Bill Crain, Oskaloosa, and Steven D. Crain, Topeka; a daughter, Earlene M. Burns, Perry; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Memorial services were Feb. 25 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka. The Perry American Legion conducted military honors at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry.

Bill Roach

Bill Roach, 70, Meriden, died Feb. 23, 2009, at his home after an extended illness.

A funeral service followed by cremation will be at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Jefferson Assembly of God Church. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Barnett-Chapel Oaks Meriden Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
