David Lines
David McCord Lines, 83, Perry, died Dec. 28, 2008, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Topeka.
He was born Feb. 1, 1925, at Cherokee, Okla., the son of William Riley Sr. and Carrie Ethel McCord Lines.
He had lived in the Newman community west of Perry since 1975.
Mr. Lines served as the chief building inspector for the city of Topeka, retiring in 1987.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific during World War II from Dec. 1942 to 1946. He also served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 142 and St. Theresa Catholic Church both in Perry.
He was a graduate of Cherokee (Okla.) High School and attended Northwest Oklahoma Teachers College.
He married Jerree Perkins in September 1945 in San Francisco.They divorced. He married Helen K. Gantz Quinlan Feb. 14, 1975, at Topeka. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 2007.
He is survived by one son, Dennis Lines, Topeka; two daughters, Nancy Lines, Topeka, and Dawn Lines, Auburn; a stepdaughter, Patsy Morse, Perry; a brother, William R. “Dub” Lines Jr., Guymon, Okla.; a sister, Lena Mae Fuller, Topeka; two grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and two step-great-granddaughters. Funeral services were Jan. 2 at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Newman.

Rita R. Heinen
Rita Rose Heinen, 87, Seneca, died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at her home with her loving family around her.
She was born November 8, 1921, at Baileyville, KS, the daughter of Bertha (Noll) and John Nolte Sr. She attended Baileyville High School and graduated with honors.
Mrs. Heinen was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society, she enjoyed playing cards with her many friends. She also enjoyed working side by side with her husband, Albert, at their business, Heinen Tractor & Farm Supply (ITCO).
She married Albert H. Heinen on November 25, 1941, at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. He died February 6, 1987; of this marriage nine children were born. Five daughters, Karleen (Jerry) Boden of Corning, Sandra (Charles) Stallbaumer of Centralia, Connie (Kenny) Grimm of Sabetha, Debbie (Jim) Zwygart of Meriden, and Lori (Mark) Harris of Topeka. Four sons, Richard, deceased (Janice) Heinen of Topeka, Russell (Jane) Heinen of Meriden, Jim (Linda) Heinen and Randy (Sheryl) Heinen, both of Seneca.
She is survived by one brother, John (Betty) Nolte, of Shawnee, Kansas. Five sisters Helen (Aloy) Broxterman of Topeka, Blanche (Cyril) Lackey of Hiawatha, Carmelita (John) Huls of Littleton, Colorado, Doris (Ray) Roeder of Topeka, and Donna Mae (Louie) Weaver of Alamo, TX. Aurelia McElroy, Audrey Stattelman, Virgil Nolte and Paul Nolte preceded her in death.
Rita was “blessed” with 29 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren and 2 to arrive shortly.
Rosaries were prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Sunday, December 28, 2008. The eulogy was written and presented by Tad Cairney. Father Arul Carasala celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 29, 2008, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The servers were Danny Mueting, Michaela Stallbaumer, Mayda Stallbaumer and Brianna Boden, the cross bearer was Tyler Heinen. The Pall was placed by Mark Boden, Chris Boden, Jason Stallbaumer and Justin Stallbaumer. The petitions were read by Brenda Swango and Jessica Deters, and the lector was Sheri Mueting. The music was provided by soloist Cyril Steinlage and organist Terri Nordhus. The offertory Giftbearers were Marsha Korber, Keri Graf, Krysten Weeldreyer, and Devan Zwygart; those placing the roses were Jackie Riggles, Sara Nordhus, Desirae Reitz, Emily Eisenbarth and Rachel Harris. The Eucharistic Ministers were Kyla Heinen, Michele Heinen, Caitlin Heinen, and Craig Mueting.
Pallbearers carrying Rita to her resting place in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Seneca were Kevin Heinen, Keith Boden, Troy Heinen, Michael Stallbaumer, Albert (AJ) Heinen, Ryan Grimm, Eric Zwygart, and Jeremy Harris.

Raymond Pentlin
Raymond L. “Pappy” Pentlin, 87, Oskaloosa, formerly of McLouth, died Dec. 31, 2008, at his home in Oskaloosa.
He was born Jan. 13, 1921, at Lawrence, the son of William Clark and Edith Mae Hill Pentlin.
He had lived in Oskaloosa since 1999 moving from McLouth where he was a lifelong resident.
He was a long-time employee of the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department where he was a truck driver and county shop worker from 1969 until his retirement in 1986. He had formerly worked for the city of Lawrence Sanitation Department for many years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.
He was a member of the McLouth Church of the Nazarene.
He married Marian Louise Gorden Dec. 16, 1945, at Perry. She survives at home.
Other survivors include six sons, Bill Pentlin, Oskaloosa, Larry Pentlin, Garland, Texas, Jim Pentlin, Buckeye, Ariz., John Pentlin, Belton, Mo., Dan Pentlin, Perry, and David Pentlin, Ozawkie; four daughters, Mary Fitzpatrick, McLouth, Carol Hale and Donna Bateman, Oskaloosa, and Gloria Ray, Lawrence; 23 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Jan. 5 at the McLouth Church of the Nazarene. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.

Frances Bright
Frances Lila Bright, 92, Oskaloosa, died Jan. 3, 2009, at the Hickory Pointe Care center in Oskaloosa.
She was born March 29, 1916, at Dunavant, the daughter of Frank Cleveland and Meta McEndree Fourtner. She had lived in the Dunavant and Oskaloosa area all her life.
Mrs. Bright worked as a cook for Oskaloosa School District No. 341 for 24 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, Eagles Auxiliary No. 4015 , and the Lucky Spur Saddle Club, all in Oskaloosa.
She married John Vernon Bright May 28, 1946, at Lawrence. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1982.
Mrs. Bright is survived by three daughters, Frances Kay Snell, Oskaloosa, Brenda Bright, Topeka, and Barbara Darveaux, Valley Falls; two sisters, Mae Edwards, Oskaloosa, and Velma Hannah, Manhattan; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Frank James Fourtner, and a sister, Marie Gensler.
Funeral services were Jan. 7 at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
