FFA, 4-H members can build their own truck bed

Bittersweet Farms

Dennis Schultz, often acknowledged as the Happy Farm Boy, operates Bittersweet Farms at Oskaloosa in partnership with his wife, June. The steel and aluminum sales and manufacturing business is offering a special do-it-yourself steel flatbed kit to 4-H and FFA members. Andrew Swoyer, left, completes transaction for one of the projects with detailed construction instructions.

Nearly every farm boy and girl, and nearly every teenage cowboy  and cowgirl wants a new flatbed for their pickup.
It’s an expense many can’t afford, and even better than having a new flatbed for a teenager’s pickup is to build it personally.
“Understanding and appreciating those situations, we now offer Braverman unassembled steel flatbed kits at reduced prices to 4-H and FFA members, so they can save money and construct their own flatbed,” according to June Schultz at Bittersweet Farms near Oskaloosa in Jefferson County.
“We’re a relatively small manufacturing firm, but we’ve been in business more than 30 years, and the Braverman Aluminum Flatbed has been voted one of the best available on today’s market,” Schultz said.
What’s most unique about the Braverman Aluminum Truck Beds is their “complete weld-free concept,” Schultz explained.
“There are no welds to crack, no paint to chip and no steel to rust on the full skirted aluminum truck bed offering a mill finish bedside for a more maintainable surface,” she said. “We custom design flatbeds exactly the way the owner wants them for any shape and size of truck, building green, growing strong.”
As importantly, Bittersweet Farms is stepping up to do their part for tomorrow’s agriculture generation. For the young ambitious teenage boys and girls who want to build it themselves, the steel flatbed kits include cut and formed steel, treated plate flooring, and all electrical wiring mechanisms with detailed how-to-do-it instructions, Schultz said.
In addition to the Braverman Truck  Beds, Bittersweet Farms is a steel and aluminum supply business offering steel and aluminum sales, grill guards, truck accessories, steel barn packages and supplies, trailer supplies and repairs, and welding supplies as well as welding services and fabrication.
“We’re anxious to help everybody with their steel and aluminum needs, and are especially happy to offer the un-assembled steel flatbed kits for young people wanting to save money and build their own,” Schultz said.
Using aluminum made in the United States, the wide selection of quality, durable, long-lasting products manufactured by Bittersweet Farms are shipped throughout the country.
“Our friendly customer service staff will help find the best solutions for you,” June Schultz promised.
