Mable Mestagh--Donkey Basketball

Although the hard court season has come to an end, members of the McLouth community were treated to a game of basketball this past Wednesday evening in the purple gym. Patrons arrived to not just any ol’ game of basketball, this game just happened to include four hoofs, a tail and a sanitation crew.
Donkey basketball was brought to the gym by the McLouth FFA. There were three games scheduled for the evening and each game consisted of two eight-minute halves.
The first game of the evening pitted the McLouth FFA against the Tonganoxie FFA. In a close game, the Tonganoxie FFA led 6-2 at the half and went on to win 10-8, securing their spot in the championship game.
Round two brought the Red Misfits against the McLouth Blue Team. The Blue team dominated the first half outscoring the Misfits 4-0. The pace continued in the second half and the Blue team won the game 10-6.
In the championship round of the evening, the Tonganoxie FFA came out victorious over McLouth Blue by a score of 8-4.
Riders for the McLouth FFA were Mason Abner, president, Rachael Sparks, vice president, Mable Mestagh, secretary, Alyssa Nemeth, treasurer, Hannah Sparks, reporter, Natalie Richardson, sentinel, Michael Frederick, Dominique Tullis, Shelby Turner and Tori Bristol.
The Red Misfit Team riders were Hilary Marquette, Tonganoxie Alumni, Tina Allen, Tonganoxie Alumni, William Schmalsteig, Atchison FFA, Jim Holwick, LJEC, Ceara Funk, Michael Turner, Esmy Mendoza, and Kiana Hernandez.
The McLouth Blue team consisted of Jessica Lindshield, second-grade teacher, Gary Freeman, PE/Football coach, Sandra Walbridge, FACS, Chelsee Poskey, fourth-grade teacher, Lichen McHenry, Zach McCowan, Tristan Funk and Tanner Rule.
The donkeys were provided by Dairyland Donkey Basketball LLC, Chippewa Falls, Wisc.
