JW girls return home with 3rd place

Coach Chad Jackson believes his Jefferson West softball team did a great job taking third place in their first trip to state.
The team knocked down Chapman in the 4A opener at Pratt, 10-1, and then suffered their second defeat of the season against Clearwater, 9-1.
“They hit four home runs on us,” Jackson said. “We hadn’t seen hitting like that all season.”
The Tigers rallied in the consolation game and closed out with a 2-1 victory over Goodland.
Jefferson West got its two runs in the first inning and were able to hold the opponent to 1. Faith Becker pitched the first three innings and Olivia Brees closed the game on the mound.
Jackson said he will lose five seniors off the team who provided great leadership.
“It was a team with good chemistry and when you put that with some great talent you have a winning team,” Jackson said.
Those who played their last high school game are Brittany Lanum, Victoria Johnson, Kailee Gibson, Jacey Guy, and Madison Green.
