Patriotism on display in McLouth

The 16th annual Patriots Day Parade drew scores of people to McLouth Saturday to view a red- white-and-blue procession that included McLouth High School’s top-ranked band, a human flag provided by the Bank of McLouth, none other than both “George Washington” and “Paul Revere,” modern-day patriots, some on foot and others astride horses, dressed in period apparel and carrying the colors, and a trolley transporting just some of the many veterans who have served their country down through the years.

Heinen, Poe retire from electric co-op

The invitation to the public reads “Retirement – your table for two is ready,” and while Steve Poe isn’t Joe Heinen’s first choice for a dinner companion at a five-star restaurant, nor Heinen Poe’s, the two men have come to greatly admire each other as a direct result of their many years working together as employees of Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Cooperative.

Hobby makes Aydukovich the ‘can man’

Tim Aydukovich of Oskaloosa crushes boxes, sweeps the sidewalk and takes out the garbage two days a week at Thriftway, and were he ever to be asked to wash the front windows or carry a bag of groceries to a little old lady’s car for her, in all likelihood the affable 42-year-old man would be more than happy to oblige.

National Volunteer Month Volunteer pays back by serving others

Clulo delivers Meals on Wheels twice a week, often to as many 18 people.
