New editor assumes duties at Oskaloosa

Jared Speckman, 23, has been named editor of the Oskaloosa Independent. He assumed the duties Monday.

He follows Dennis Sharkey, who left after editing the paper for three years.

Speckman will edit the Independent and also report for both county newspapers, which includes the Valley Falls Vindicator.

He is a 2008 graduate of Savannah (Mo.) High School. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., where he was a member of the football team and the student newspaper. He graduated in December 2012 with a bachelor of arts degree in communication.

Jared previously worked for The Savannah Reporter, The Platte County Landmark, and The St. Joseph News-Press.
