New librarian hired at Delaware Township in Valley Falls

Amy Lassiter, Ozawkie, has been hired to be the Delaware Township librarian at Valley Falls.

Lassiter, who is currently the librarian at Winchester, was the daughter-in-law of the late Kay Lassiter, the former librarian who died unexpectedly June 16.

She is expected to start full time Aug. 20.

The library board interviewed two applicants for the position.

“Both applicants were good and it was a difficult decision,” William Schmelzle, board president, said.

“No one will ever replace Kay and the heart she put into it, but Amy will add her own special touches and the library will remain a strong resource for the community,” he said.

Schmelzle said the board tried to keep the flow of things as normal as possible after Lassiter’s death.

“I think Kay would have wanted it to keep going just as it had been,” he said.

Jody Lockhart, board vice president, complimented Karen Botkin and Patsy Frommer, who have kept the library operating.

Lockhart and Schmelzle, assisted by Amy Lassiter’s daughter, Brynne, conducted the story hours for the children.

The other board members are Carolyn Edwards, Donna Dunn, and Jeanie Frakes.
