Gerald Ross “Jerry” Shufflebarger, 70, Oskaloosa, died July 31, 2012, at the F.W. Huston Care Facility in Winchester under the care of Jefferson County Hospice.
He was born Feb. 20, 1942, in Atchison, the son of Eldon Rae and Jennie Lynn Meador Shufflebarger.
He was a 1960 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended auto mechanic school in Kansas City.
He worked as a mechanic for the Carl Reiling garage, Robert Smith Motors, and for Keith Worthington’s Service Station, all in Oskaloosa.
He had formerly worked for Harlow Myers’ Bonded Audit Company in Oskaloosa and for the Hercules Powder and Ordnance Plant in DeSoto.
He worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka for 34 years, retiring from the receiving department April 1, 2003.
He was a member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 309 in Lawrence, a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 690 in Oskaloosa, and the United Steel Workers Union Local No. 307, Topeka.
He married Frances Ann Brey Nov. 4, 1965, at Great Bend. She survives at the home. He is also survived by one son, Rodney Shufflebarger, Oskaloosa; one daughter, Debra McAferty, McLouth; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Rae Heath.
Funeral services were Aug. 4 at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
