Wilma Courtney

Wilma Louise Courtney, 83, Oskaloosa, died June 28, 2012, at the F.W. Huston Living center in Winchester.

She was born in rural McLouth Oct. 31, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Ethel Garrey Newell.

She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1946. She married Harlan E. Courtney in rural Valley Falls April 2, 1949. He survives of the home.

She helped out around the farm, and was a wonderful homemaker and wife to her husband of 63 yrs. She was a member of the Crossroads Cowboy Church in Williamstown, and a 50-year member and past worthy matron of O.E.S No. 62 in Oskaloosa. She was a lifetime member of the Homemaker’s Club of rural Oskaloosa.

She is survived by two sons, Orville Courtney and his wife, Deborah, Topeka, and Dan Courtney and his wife, Pat, Oskaloosa; one brother, Joe Dale Newell, Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Newell, one daughter, and four sons in infancy.

Services were July 2 at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. O.E.S. services followed. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
