Road work begins in Oskaloosa

Road construction crews were scheduled to begin work on Monday but were pushed back slightly.

The first phase of work will be the milling of the road and full depth repairs. That work was supposed to be completed by Tuesday. Travelers were expected to be able to use the effected roads soon after the overlay.

The streets that will be affected include: Lawrence Street between Liberty and Cherokee streets, and Hamilton Street between Liberty and Cherokee streets.

Sealing work will begin on Monday, June 25, after Old Settlers’ Reunion. Those roads will be closed for at least four hours to any kind of travel. Homeowners will be notified of the closures.

The streets affected include: Sycamore Street from Jefferson Street to the dead end; Atchison Street between Union and Cherokee streets; Union Street between Topeka and Atchison streets; Herkimer Street between Liberty and Cherokee and between Cherokee and Walnut streets; Liberty Street between Washington and Herkimer streets; Washington Street between Walnut and Sycamore streets; Lawrence Street between Liberty and Union streets; Cherokee Street between Jefferson and Hamilton streets; and Union Street between Monroe and Jefferson streets.

The city is spending more than $100,000 on street projects this summer.
