Don Tvrdik brought his 1939 Ford half-ton pickup to town for the monthly car and bike show sponsored by Flamingo Too Sunday. Don and his wife, Kathy, moved to their rural Valley Falls home earlier this year. He has been restoring the truck for the past 12 years. The front license plate, “Toyman,” refers to a second hobby of buying and selling antique toys. Don said they divested of a large portion of the collection before moving, but at one time had 20,000 antique toys, what he believes was one of the largest private collections ever assembled. Tvrdik is an Air Force veteran who recently retired from Forbes where he worked in the precision measurement equipment laboratory repairing and calibrating aircraft instruments. The couple has two children and five grandchildren.
