VFW convention in Topeka

The Kansas Veterans of Foreign Wars and its women’s auxiliary will be holding their annual state convention in Topeka June 1-3.State Commander Bob Cox, McPherson, and auxiliary President Kelle Brewer-Brown, Topeka, state officers and members from throughout Kansas will meet at the Capitol Plaza Hotel to conduct meetings in regard to their many civic and patriotic programs.

The VFW has close to a million members and most of its over 9,000 Posts are located in the United States. The Kansas VFW has over 25,000 members and its auxiliary has nearly 10,000 members, supporting the 154 Posts in the state. The Kansas VFW will celebrate its 92nd anniversary and the auxiliary will celebrate its 85th anniversary this year.

State committee meetings begin Friday morning. The regular business meetings commence at 1 p.m. Friday. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday. Business meetings will continue all day Saturday and the annual banquet will be at the hotel at 7 p.m. Meetings will conclude Sunday with the nomination, election and installation of the 2012-2013 state officers.
