Charles Pence

Charles Edwin Pence, 78, Winchester, died May 4, 2012, at the F.W. Huston Living Center in Winchester.

A lifelong resident of Winchester, he was born Jan. 19, 1934, the son of Edwin Dean and Ester Fulton Pence. He was a 1951 graduate of Winchester High School.

He worked for the Topeka Lumber Company 18 years, retiring in 1990. He was a farmer and stockman in Winchester all his life.

He was a member of the Winchester United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 14 in Oskaloosa. He served as a board member for the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital and as a board member of the Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Cooperative in McLouth. He was also a member of the Topeka Homebuilder’s Association.

He married Barbara Lou Moon June 23, 1951, at Winchester. She survives at home.

Other survivors include four daughters, Nancy Smith, Topeka, Cheryl Noll, Oskaloosa, Alice Bertels, Topeka, and Mary Davies, Lebo; one brother, Richard Pence, the Villages, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Pence, one sister, Ruth Reynolds Young, and a brother, Ernest Pence.

Funeral services were May 8 at the Winchester United Methodist Church. Burial was at Spring Grove Cemetery.
