Vickie Burk

Vickie Lynn Burk, 55, Valley Falls, wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died April 16, 2012, at the Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka.

Vickie L. King was born Oct. 11, 1956, in Winchester, the daughter of William and Oleta Metzger King. She graduated from Jefferson County North High School in 1974.

She worked as a laborer for North Star Manufacturing for four years. She was the office manager for the Oskaloosa Independent newspaper for over 10 years. Vickie was the self proclaimed mayor of Dunavant and enjoyed her grandchildren.

She was married to Vernon Clifford Burk Jr. Sept. 14, 1974.They were divorced in 2003.

Survivors include three sons, Russell (Crista) Burk, Topeka, Brian Burk, Valley Falls, and Jeffrey (Monica) Burk, Vail, Colo.; two brothers, Bill King, Valley Falls, and Lewis King, Boyle; four sisters, Marsha Weishaar, Nortonville, Judy Keirns, Nortonville, Darla Kramer, Carbondale, and Leanne Schrick, Apex, N.C.; five grandchildren; and a special companion and friend, Cliff Schneider, Winchester. Her parents preceded her in death.

Memorial services were April 21 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Nortonville, with the Rev. Michael VanVelzer officiating. Burial of cremated remains was in the Ozawkie Cemetery.

The Becker-Dyer-Stanton & O’Trimble Funeral Chapel, Nortonville handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Care Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
