Oskaloosa students’ accomplishments to be on display
by Dennis Sharkey
The accomplishments of Oskaloosa students and athletes will soon be on display for all visitors to see.
Construction will begin soon on two signs that will display state championships in athletic and academics.
Currently the city has one sign on southbound U.S. 59 Highway that has been weathered and is hard to see.
A new sign for southbound travelers will be constructed on the west side of the highway on ground currently owned by the Baptist Church.
A second sign for eastbound travelers heading into town on K-92 Highway will also soon be constructed. That sign will be placed on land owned by Westar Energy.
A third location is still being worked on for northbound and westbound travelers coming into town on U.S. 59 Highway.
Superintendent Jon Pfau said all city and state permits have been obtained.
The signs will utilize a white and blue color scheme. The sign will feature a greeting for travelers entering town.
Placard places will be available on the sign to add future accomplishments.
“Hopefully we’ll have a chance to add to that in the future,” Pfau said.
The idea gained steam last school year when the Lady Bears captured the 2010 Class 2A state volleyball championship.
