Lawanda Wood

Lawanda L Wood, 74, died April 18, 2012, following an automobile accident in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was born July21, 1937, in Antler, Okla., the daughter of John and Pearl Thompson Helt. She graduated from Turner High school, Kansas City, in 1955. She worked at JC Penney’s and was also a hairdresser.

She married Lloyd “Woody” Wood, Sept 12, 1959. He survives at the home. They had recently moved to Florence, Ariz., from Ozawkie where they had lived since 1969.

Mrs. Wood was a former 4-H leader. In the early 1980s she was a co-founder of God’s Storehouse, a food pantry in Meriden that continues to serve poor families.

She is also survived by two daughters, Kelly Wood and Michele Wood, of Arizona; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a sister, Shirley Whitt, of Texas.

A memorial and interment service will be announced later.

Mr. Wood is still recovering from injuries sustained in the accident and would enjoy hearing from his friends at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, 1111 E McDowell Rd., Phoenix, 85006.
