Growing grapes for wine

White grapes vs. red, sugar content, marketing, and fears of a frost were all part of the discussion at a vineyard workshop. Dominic Martin (left), a viticulture-enology instructor from Highland Community College, conducted the workshop for about 20 people at the Crooked Post Vineyard southeast of Valley Falls. Hosts were Kevin (front right) and Lori Henderson. The group toured the vineyard and talked about pruning, trellises, pesticides, and which grapes the birds favor. Meadowlark Extension Agent David Hallauer was among those attending.
