New operator will open corner restaurant in McLouth

by Dennis Sharkey

The corner restaurant in McLouth may turn the open lights on this week.

The old Bartlett’s Restaurant location on the northeast corner of K-16 Highway and Union Streets has seen three different restaurants open in the last two years only to have the doors close a few months later.

The newest establishment, Art’s Diner, will hopefully open this week according to proprietor Phil Cline, rural McLouth. Cline said Artie Owen will manage the day to day operations of the restaurant.

Cline said the restaurant will be open seven days a week. Most days the restaurant will open at 6 a.m. and close around 10 p.m. and will feature breakfast all day.

Owen and Cline have spent the last two weeks preparing the building for opening. The menu in addition to breakfast will center around Americana style food including hamburgers. Daily specials and Mexican cuisine will also be featured.

Cline said the menu will feature as much locally purchased food as possible. He said hand breaded tenderloins are being purchased from the local store. The restaurant also has a machine that will cut fresh french fries and other types of potatoes cuts.

The last operator at that location opened last fall and was successful for a few months. But hours of the restaurant changed from week to week and the operation stopped before the new year.
