Leslie Arthur

Leslie Kenneth Arthur, 92, died March 23, 2012, at Roseburg, Ore.

He was born Feb. 23, 1920, at Ozawkie, the son of Paul B. and Clara Cleota “Cokie” Arthur. He attended Ozawkie grade and high schools until the family moved to Oregon.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, landing in Normandy on D-Day and seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge.

He married Barbara Gene Hampton Nov. 29, 1945, at Cottage Grove, Ore. She survives.

In 1946 and 1947, Les and his brother, Wes Arthur, operated restaurants a block apart in Valley Falls. He retired as power plant supervisor from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Roseburg.

Other survivors include daughters, Carol Lynn Beamer, Roseburg, and Jean Pittman, Tigard, Ore.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his one brother and four sisters, Mary Wellstead, Lillian Kendall, Pauline Fredrickson, and Virginia Underwood.

Graveside services were held March 27 at Roseburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
