John McClurg

John Gerald “Jerry” McClurg, 76, Meriden, died at his home March 5, 2012.

He was born Jan. 3, 1936, at Meriden, the son of John Pierce and Fern Bernice Dellinger McClurg.

He graduated in 1953 from Meriden high School where he excelled in athletics. He played baseball for 10 years in northeastern Kansas.

He married Marjorie Wells Jan. 31, 1960, at the Meriden United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.

He retired in 1995 from Dupont/Flexel after 30 years. He was a member of the Meriden United Methodist Church, the Capital City Gun Club, and the National Rifle Association. He raised livestock and farmed.

Other survivors include a son, Mike McClurg; a daughter, Michele Carter; five grandchildren; and a sister, Delores Spence, Valley Falls.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry McClurg.

Memorials can be made to Meriden United Methodist Church or to the donor’s choice.

A Memorial Celebration of Life was held March 9 at the Meriden United Methodist Church.

Barnett Family Funeral Home handled arrangements.
