Jack Huckabay

Jack “Huck” Huckabay, 83, Meriden, died March 5, 2012, at his home.

He was born April 9, 1928, at Horton, the son of J.P. “Slick” and Irene L. Musgrove Huckabay.

He was a 1946 graduate of Horton High School and attended Baker University two years and Emporia State University two years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1946 to 1948. He owned and operated the Huckabay Insurance Agency in Meriden and Ozawkie 49 years, retiring in the fall of 2011.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Church in Meriden, Knights of Columbus Council No. 7426, Perry American Legion Post No. 142, Moose Lodge in Topeka, and the Alvamar Golf and Country Club in Lawrence.

He married Marilyn R. Mathewson April 16, 1955, at Seneca. She survives at home.

Survivors include two sons, Jay Huckabay, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Jeff Huckabay, Topeka; two daughters, Jan Wells, Meriden, and Joleen Nocktonick, Argyle, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Church, Meriden. Cremation will follow services. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Horton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Church. A Parish Rosary recitation will be at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends and relatives from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the Mass at the church.

Memorials can be made to God’s Storehouse in Meriden or to Jefferson Friends of Hospice or to St. Aloysius Church and sent in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, 66066.
