Head Start taking applications for fall

NEK-CAP Head Start is currently taking applications for the 2012-2013 school year.

Head Start centers in Jefferson County are located in Oskaloosa and Meriden.

Head Start is a nationally known, research-based preschool program which serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers and is available at no cost.

“Head Start staff offers children and families acceptance, understanding, and the opportunity to learn and to experience success,” reports Rose Sigmund, program spokeswoman.

Head Start children socialize with others, solve problems and have other experiences that help them become self-confident.

“The children are more prepared for kindergarten, excited about learning and ready to succeed,” she said.

The program offers half-day and full-day programs as well as home-based services. Some programs offer children bus transportation to and from home.

Information needed to complete the application includes income, social security numbers, medical card, immunization records, and birth certificate.

Appointments can be made by calling the Meriden center toll-free at 888-383-6068 or Oskaloosa 888-221-9334.
