Hazel Fry

Hazel H. Fry, 91, Lawrence, died March 21, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 6, 1921, in Winchester, the daughter of Raymond S. and Ina May Courtney Connelly.

During World War II at the age of 21 she moved to Santa Monica, Calif., and took a job as “Rosie the Riveter” helping to assemble airplanes for the war effort. She then moved back to Lawrence and was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper of 17 1/2 years at Owens Flower Shop.

She married Cecil Fry Oct. 25, 1962, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death June 29, 1985.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Lawrence; daughter, Deloris, Gardner; brother, Marvin Connelly, McLouth; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Connelly.

The funeral service was March 26 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contribution can be made to the Hazel H. Fry Memorial Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.
