Raymond Strawn, 93, died Feb. 11, 2012, in Vancouver, Wash.
He was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Valley Falls, to John and Luella Strawn. He grew up on farms in Kansas along with his nine siblings.
He joined the Army in 1940. He was assigned with artillery and saw World War II combat in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany.
He married Rosella Agnes Kelly Aug. 30, 1946, at St. James Catholic Church in Vancouver.
His working career was with Safeway for 30 years with most of those years being in Tillamook, Ore., where he retired in 1976. He and Rosella moved to Vancouver in 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Rosella; daughter Rae Anne Sheets; sons Chris Strawn and Ron Strawn; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Agnes Hefty and Juanita Mae Boley; and brother, Marvin Louis Strawn.
He was preceded in death by his brothers William Ellis, John Marion, and Francis Leland, and his sisters Hazel Rebecca Zinn, Rose Marie Bonebrake, and Luella Ruth Carson.
A graveside service was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore., Thursday, Feb. 16.
