Jefferson County North’s Kaitlyn Schneider, left, won the Jefferson County Spelling Bee held in McLouth Saturday morning. The runnerup was Hunter Terrell, McLouth, who will accompany Kaitlyn to the Regional Spelling Bee March 3 in Topeka.
The county bee lasted only a few minutes with the winner declared after five rounds. Five contestants fell in the first round, three in the second, and one in the third. The third-place contestant, Jesse Messer, of Perry-Lecompton, was brought back on stage to compete for second place, won by Hunter Terrell. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Jeff and Jennie Schneider, Winchester, and Hunter is the son of Carmen Mestagh, McLouth.
