Landowners: Conservation Stewardship Program Workshop Jan. 11

The Leavenworth and Jefferson Natural Resource Conservation Service will be host to informational workshops for landowners interested in the Conservation Stewardship Program Jan. 11.One workshop will be held at 10 a.m. at the USDA Service Center in Oskaloosa and the other will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Leavenworth County fairgrounds administration building.

These workshops are free and intended to inform area landowners of the availability of specific programs through NRCS.

The CSP is a voluntary program that encourages agricultural and forestry producers to address resource concerns by (1) undertaking additional conservation activities and (2) improving and maintaining existing conservation systems. CSP provides financial and technical assistance to help land stewards conserve and enhance soil, water, air, and related natural resources on their land.

CSP pays participants for conservation performance—the higher the performance, the higher the payment. It provides two possible types of payments. An annual payment is available for installing new conservation activities and maintaining existing practices. A supplemental payment is available to participants who also adopt a resource-conserving crop rotation.

Any landowner wishing to attend either workshop need only come the day of the meeting. No RSVP is required.
