Steinlicht appointed to district fire board

Stephanie Steinlicht has been appointed to the Jefferson County District 11 board of directors.

The board members filled this at large position at the Dec. 13 meeting to replace Charles “Butch” Wynkoop. The appointment is for two years.

Steinlicht resides in rural Valley Falls. She is the office manager for Drs. James Rider and Larry Campbell with clinics at Valley Falls, Oskaloosa, Winchester, and Nortonville.

She and her husband, Mike, have two children.

The other board members are Jason Nellis, chairman, Mary Jane Burns, Mike Hahn, and Bill Klenklen.

Fire Chief John Gordon located a Pierce Arrow fire truck at Pocatello, Idaho, recently and the board approved its purchase for $25,000. This price was no more than what it was going to cost to fix the ladder on the district’s truck it now owns. But things didn’t work out.

Firemen Bill Klenklen and Dave Shell went to Pocatello to pick it up and drive it back, but the engine blew out within 30 miles of the town.

The Pocatello firemen retrieved the truck and returned the money to the Valley Falls men.

Gordon said the truck is now priced at $11,000 and the department isn’t sure what to do. He believes they could drop an engine in the truck and still have a bargain. Others aren’t so sure and would feel better if the price was dropped a little lower.
