Robert Keirns

Robert J. Keirns, 84, Winchester, died Nov. 20, 2011, at the F.W. Huston Geriatric Center.He was born Dec. 29, 1926, at Cummings, the son of the late Clarence Harlan and Mary Hazel Robinson Keirns.He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 in Hawaii during World War II.

He had worked for the former LFM Steel Foundry in Atchison prior to working for over 25 years as a sheet metal worker for TWA in Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Edgerton, Mo.

He married Almeta Brown June 4, 1948. She preceded him in death July 31, 1971. He married Shirley Ross July 27, 1973, and she preceded him death Jan. 28, 2008.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Janie and Craig Messick of California, Jon and Jan Keirns of Colorado, Judd Keirns of Louisiana, Bill and Laura Keirns of Nortonville, Joe and Judy Keirns of Nortonville, Luetta (Keirns) and Charley Giese of Leavenworth, and Mick and Sue Brenish of Texas.

Celebration of Life services were Nov. 30 at the F.W. Huston Geriatric Center, Winchester. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison.

Memorial contributions can be made to the activity department of F.W. Huston Geriatric Center and sent to the O’Trimble Funeral Home, PO Box 267, Nortonville, 66060, who is in charge of the arrangements.
