William S. Cooper Jr.

William “Bill” S. Cooper Jr., 66, Ozawkie, died Oct. 23, 2011, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

He was born Feb. 12, 1945, in Topeka, the son of William S. Sr. and Blanche L. Marmie Cooper.

Bill was in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1968 aboard the USS Wright Presidential Flagship based in Norfolk, Va.

Bill went to Belvoir Grade School and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1963.

Bill was well known for his mechanical ability and he owned Cooper’s Auto Garage in Kiowa in the ’80s. He worked at Howard Hughes Air Craft in Culver City, Calif., from 1977 to 1982. Bill worked for the Topeka Police Department as a civilian in the property evidence room, the impound lot and TPD wrecker driver.

Bill was a member of the Topeka Racing Pigeon Club and a member of the American Legion, Ozawkie.

Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret K. Walters Cooper; three children, Sherry Lynn Cook, Berryton, Marcus Blake Cooper, Wichita, and Bryan Wesley Cooper, Bernalillo, N.M.; sister, Wanda Lee Lampe, Fullerton, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service with military honors was held Oct. 28 at the gazebo at Topeka Cemetery.
