Valley Falls school planning Veterans Day program
by Clarke Davis
The kindergarten and first-grade pupils are already at work writing thank you notes to community veterans for their service to the nation. Veterans will receive those notes of thanks when they attend the fourth annual Veterans Day recognition program Nov. 11 at Valley Falls Schools.
This year’s program is being headed up by seniors Hunter Sherretts and Michaela Hahn.
Veterans and guests are invited to a reception in the commons area at 1:30 p.m. where they will be welcomed by Superintendent Loren Feldkamp. They will enter the gymnasium at 2 p.m. and join an all-school assembly.
Organizers want to know who will be attending, so preparations can be made in advance. Veterans or their family members should call the school office, 945-3214, if you are going to attend.
Administrative assistant Cyrena Burghart maintains the list of veterans and technical supervisor Cary Brosa prepares a PowerPoint presentation showing photos of every veteran.
Burghart said the list contains nearly 150 people who have served in the armed forces. More can be added by letting her know and providing a photo.
Something new this year will be a demonstration by the sixth-graders who will show the proper way to fold a flag as teacher Jeff Schneider relates many of the flag’s symbols.
The school band and choir will participate and the preschool class will recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
