Eva Biery

Eva Nola Biery, 102, Oskaloosa, died Nov. 9, 2011.

She was born Nov. 29, 1908, near Webster in Rooks County, the second oldest of 14 children to Oscar and Maude Coleman Clark.

She attended school in Rooks County and also subsequently taught school in Rooks and Phillips counties for four years.

She married Alvin J. Biery June 5, 1929, at Webster. They moved to Oskaloosa in 1935 to escape the dust storms in western Kansas. She was a homemaker and farm wife.

She was an active member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. She served as president of the Home Demonstration Unit for two years. She helped organize the first PTA and was the first kindergarten teacher in Oskaloosa and served as the first coordinator of the Meals On Wheels program in Oskaloosa for seven years.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Hundley, Oskaloosa; one son, Everett Biery, Franktown, Colo.; two brothers, Aaron Clark, Logan, and Robert “Benny” Clark, Emmett, Calif.; five sisters, Eleanor White, Klammath Falls, Ore., Margaret Kerr, Del City, Okla., Ruth Colgrove, Yelm, Wash., Naomi Maddox, Valley Falls, and Christa Dunfee, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin J. Biery, Aug. 3, 1977, two grandsons, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services were Nov. 12 at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
