Rose Ann Staab

Rose Ann Staab, 93, Garden City, formerly of Valley Falls, died Oct.17, 2011, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Harry B. and Edythe Mallory Martin.

She had lived in Valley Falls until she moved to Garden City in the early 1980s and later moved to Lakin. She attended Benedictine College and Emporia State.

Mrs. Staab was a farmwife and a schoolteacher for 30 years. She taught at Rock Creek, Valley Falls, Oskaloosa, Half Mound and Williamstown.

She married Elmer Wendlin Staab Sept. 23, 1950, in Valley Falls. He preceded her in death Jan. 9, 1961.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Edith Staab, Sept. 27, 2007; her sister, Glena May Bolz; her brothers, Gorby Martin, Burley Martin, Nelson Martin, and Chalmer Martin.

She is survived by her grandson, Matt Truong, Lenexa; and a sister, Daisy Kristofek, Bristol, Va.

Funeral services were Oct. 22 at Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial was in Valley Falls Cemetery.
