Highway projects slated for Jefferson County next year

The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced both heavy and light preservation projects it will let contracts on next year.

Those in Jefferson County and their estimated cost are:

Heavy projects: overlay on 5.5 miles of US-24 from 1.8 miles east of the Shawnee County line east to the 4-lane/2-lane transition; $8.5 million; to be let in February.

Light preservation work: K-245 from the K-4 junction north to the end of K-245; one-third mile; $33,000; to be let in December.

Light preservation: 26 miles of K-4 overlay from the Shawnee County line northeast to the US-59 junction; $4.6 million; to be let in December.

Light preservation: Half a mile of US-59 from K-4 junction north to the Atchison County line; $95,000; to be let in December.

Bridge repair: two bridges on K-4 located 3.19 miles north of US-24 (Muddy Creek); $285,700; to be let in February.

Bridge replacement: K-192, Indian Creek bridge 2.5 miles west of the Leavenworth County line; $1.1 million; to be let in February.
