Chess resigns from Oskaloosa school board
by Dennis Sharkey
Oskaloosa USD 341 is now one member short after Monday night’s meeting.
Board member Daryl Chess’s resignation was accepted by resolution by a 5-0 vote. Chess was not present nor was Board Member Denise Selbee-Koch.
Chess was the longest tenured board member with more than eight years of service.
Chess had completed a term in June and had not run for re-election last April but won the seat as a write-in candidate.
Superintendent Jon Pfau said that Chess indicated he was stepping down for personal reasons and to spend more time with the Oskaloosa Fire Department in which he serves as the chief.
By resolution the board will advertise for the open position. Chess’ position was the at large seat which would eliminate any residency requirements except that the candidate reside within the district. Details of how to apply for the position are available at the district office.
The board could appoint a new member at next months meeting. The appointed person would serve until the next election in April 2013. Chess’s term was not set to expire until June 2015.
