Margaret Lorraine Hendrix, 90, rural Oskaloosa, died Aug. 12, 2011, at her home.
She was born Sept. 20, 1920, at Ozawkie, the daughter of John H. and Gertrude Mae Mullendore Sayler.
She married Elmer Norman Hendrix Sept. 25, 1938, at Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death Nov. 25, 2010.
Mrs. Hendrix was a lifelong resident of the rural Oskaloosa area. She was a farmer’s wife, mother, and homemaker. The couple farmed and raised cattle, hogs, and chickens until the building of Perry Lake. They owned and operated Hendrix Acres and Country Store near the Slough Creek area of the lake from 1970 to 1985.
She was the founder and a charter member of the Fairview Fire Department No. 6 Women’s Auxiliary, serving as president for several years. She was also a member of the Pleasant Valley Grange and served as Fairview Township Committee woman for over 25 years. She was a member of The Willing Workers Ladies Club and Order of Rebekah’s Lodge No. 657 in Ozawkie.
She is survived by a daughter, Carole Hendrix, Oskaloosa; one granddaughter, Allyson Lindstrom, Maple Grove, Minn.; three great-granddaughters; and a sister, Ruth Sayler Tessendorf Brecheisen.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Davidson, in 1991; four brothers, Harold Sayler, Paul Sayler, Leslie Sayler and Lloyd Sayler; and a sister, Mildred Sayler Altig.
Funeral services were Aug. 19 at the Rock Creek Bible Church near Meriden. Burial with honors was at Ozawkie Cemetery.
Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa, is in charge of the arrangements.
