Ernest-Spencer Metals employees donate food, money

Grocery Food Drive FoodThe employees of Ernest-Spencer Metals, Meriden, conducted a food drive the first two weeks of August and raised $2,600 in cash and 2,200 items of food. The food and money will benefit the Topeka Rescue Mission.

Organizers set a goal of five food items each for the 150 employees and they were surprised at the extent to which they surpassed the goal.

There was also a contest brewing on the sidelines, Mollee McKinley, human resources manager, explained. People were given tickets (or votes) for the items they donated and these votes decided who would wind up on a dunk tank.

“There were five of us in the contest,” she said, “and the winner is the president of the company.”

Neal Spencer will be required to take his place at the dunk tank, but McKinley wasn’t sure when or where that will be.
