The Oskaloosa square recently became more stylish.
Cathy’s Style Shop has made the move to the corner of Washington and Liberty streets this past spring. A full grand opening celebration is planned for later after all the final touches have been put on the shop.
Owner Cathy Dailey, who has operated a shop for several years behind the American Legion building in Oskaloosa, didn’t plan on moving her shop but when the building came up for sale last year the idea clicked.
“At the age of 60 it was the last thing I thought I would do,” Dailey said. “But the opportunity was there and I didn’t want to pass it up.”
Dailey’s opportunity has been extended to her staff. Her previous staff consisted of two full-time and one part-time people. Now she employs five full-time and three part-time people. The shop also has a full-time nail technician Susan Tompkinson. The shop no longer offers tanning beds in order to make room for beauticians.
The shop is open six days a week closing only on Sundays. Some stylists arrive as early as 7 a.m. for appointments and some stay as late as 8 p.m. finishing. Dailey says walk-in clients are welcome too.
One new feature of the shop is the ability for customers to get a massage from a special chair while receiving a pedicure.
The shop also offers something that has nothing to do with inner or outer beauty.
“We also have the best free coffee in town,” Dailey said.
