Carol Fairbanks

Carol Sue Fairbanks, 66, Topeka, died Aug. 9, 2011, at Brewster Place in Topeka.

She was born May 16, 1945, in Topeka, the daughter of Thomas and Gennevieve Fairbanks. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1963 and attended Stewart’s Beauty Academy.

She owned a beauty salon and later worked as an administrative assistant with the Shawnee Community Mental Health Center. She volunteered as a troop leader for the Hoyt Girl Scouts.

She married Rene Poort April 4, 1965. They divorced.

Survivors include sons, Matthew Poort, Belton, Mo., and Jarred Poort, Topeka; daughters, Heather Poort, Lawrence, and Mariah Poort-Neeley, Topeka; six grandchildren; a brother, Larry Reser, Brownsville, Texas; sisters, Donna Jean Fairbanks, Oskaloosa, and Karen Barney, Kansas City, Mo.; and stepfather, Ray Oroke, Oskaloosa.

Funeral services were Aug. 12 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Burial was at McLouth Cemetery.
