John Cree

John Walter Cree, 87, McLouth, died July 17, 2011, at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Newton, the son of Walter and Julia Walthour Cree. He served in World War II for the U.S. Army and was also a member of the Kansas National Guard.

He worked as a switchman for the Frisco and Burlington Railroads.

He married Jane Hester Sept. 14, 1953, in Emporia. She preceded him in death June 7, 2008. His son, John Erin Cree, also preceded him in death in 1962.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Bowen and Cindy Overbaugh, both of McLouth; two sisters, Sara Scott, Liberty, Mo., and Judy Dietsch, Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, at the Tonganoxie Christian Church. Burial will follow at Stoney Point Cemetery, Kansas City.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Memorials are suggested to Crossroads Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home, 604 E 4th St., Tonganoxie, 66086.
