Girlfriend says incident over more than a beer
Megan Lynch, the girlfriend of Brandon Smelser who was arrested last week following a stabbing incident in Valley Falls, said this week that the incident involved more than an argument over beer.

A family barbecue was held the previous night, a Thursday, when the stabbing victim, Christopher Daniel, was asked to leave because of his deportment.
Lynch said she has known Daniel since kindergarten days when both lived in Oskaloosa.
“I was the one who told him to leave and told him why,” Lynch said.
The next night, Smelser and Lynch took two people home to the trailer park where Daniel also lives and it was there that the altercation between Smelser and Daniel took place.
“It wasn’t over a beer,” Lynch said.
Smelser’s preliminary hearing was set for 1 p.m. July 19.
