4-H BB Gun Team in national competition
A seven-member Jefferson County 4-H BB Gun Team, led by Dave and Terri Pearson, traveled to Rogers, Ark., to participate in the 46th annual Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match July 1-3.
The match consisted of 10 shots in each of four shooting positions—prone, standing, sitting, and kneeling—for each shooter. In addition, competitors had to complete a written test, which carried as much weight, in terms of score, as one of the shooting positions.
A total of 48 teams from around the country traveled to Rogers, the home of Daisy Outdoor Products, for the match.
The Jefferson County team, which included Amber Pearson, Perry; Tana Pearson, Meriden; Harley Whitmire, McLouth; Taegan Winter, Valley Falls; Jody Emery, Meriden; Scott Urban, Ozawkie; and Shane Hoagland, Meriden, placed 21st in the competition.
Tana Pearson, daughter of Dave and Terri Pearson, won a bronze medal for her score of 98.05 in the kneeling position. The team was coached by Dave Pearson, Rory Emery, and Gary Hoagland.
The Jefferson County 4-H team qualified to compete in the national match March 14 when they competed in the Kansas State Rifle Association BB Gun Championship held in Alma. Jefferson County participants were chosen for the national team based on their scores throughout the season.
