Fern Marie Meyer, 80, Oskaloosa, died June 13, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 26, 1930, near the Vinland Community in Douglas County. She was a graduate of Tonganoxie High School.
She was a homemaker and served as the bookkeeper for the family businesses. She also worked and operated a restaurant in Oskaloosa.
She was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 62 in Oskaloosa, and the Eagle’s Auxiliary No. 4015 in Oskaloosa. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Prairie Quilters of Oskaloosa. She was a long-time volunteer for the Friends of Jefferson County Hospice.
She married George Lee Meyer Oct. 12, 1952, at Tonganoxie. He preceded her in death April 29, 1994.
She is survived by three sons, G.W. Meyer, McLouth, James D. Meyer, Claremore, Okla., and Thomas L. “Tom” Meyer, Oskaloosa; three sisters, Fay Underwood, Tonganoxie, Frances Hickey, The Villages, Fla., and Florence Sommer, Tonganoxie; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tracy Marie Meyer.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the McLouth United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visitation was from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Eastern Star Services were held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by Eagles Auxiliary Unit services.
