Ernest Alexander Jr.
Ernest Alexander Jr., 85, Topeka, died June 9, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital.
He was born Feb. 10, 1926, at Richland, the son of Ernest Alexander Sr. and Helen Hillard Alexander.
He graduated from Berryton High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years. He carried the Topeka Capital-Journal 35 years and the Kansas City Star five years. He served as a scout master and baseball coach.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Orient Lodge No. 51, AF & AM, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shriners, and Arab Shriners Antique Unit.
He married Dorothy Jean Ferrell, of Valley Falls, Nov. 28, 1949, in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Also surviving are four sons, Randy Alexander and Kendall Alexander, both Topeka, Steven Alexander, Newton, and Gregg Alexander, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve.
Memorial services were June 13 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka followed by Masonic services conducted by Orient Lodge No. 51, AF & AM. Private interment of cremains was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
