Leslie O. Farr II

Leslie O. Farr II, 59, formerly of Kodiak, Alaska, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, April 18, 2011 in Hoyt, Kansas.

He was born on November 4, 1951, in a Topeka hospital, the son of Leslie O. and Dorothy M. (Wells) Farr and grew up in rural Valley Falls.

He graduated from Valley Falls High School and attended Kaw Area Vocational Technical School.

He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1970-1974 receiving a National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star.

Les married Jennifer Coffman in 1976. They divorced in 1986.

He homesteaded in the Alaska wilderness for several of the 31 years he lived in Alaska. Les drove a cab in Anchorage and Kodiak but finished his working career as a boilermaker in electrical maintenance at Fishmeal Company in Kodiak.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy.

Les is survived by his father, Leslie O., and stepmother, Elizabeth Farr, Valley Falls; brothers and sisters, Dr. Stan (Donetta) Farr and Sharon (David) Church, Valley Falls, Barry (Nancy) Farr, Bolivar, MO, Lynn (Ron) Tuck, Hoyt, and Dr. Brad (Stephanie) Farr, Horton and many friends and family.

A memorial ceremony will be held at the Valley Falls cemetery on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 1 PM with a reception following at the Kendall State Bank Community Hall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in his name to any VFW.
